Cally Road Tube

In December 2015, Transport for London (TfL) announced plans to replace the two lifts at Caledonian Road tube station, which would have resulted in the closure of the station for 8 months from March 14  until the end of 2016.

Islington Council opposed the closure and instead proposed that the lifts be replaced one at a time, allowing the station to remain open.

After the Council issued legal proceedings, TfL agreed to withdraw and reconsider its proposals.

But we need to keep the pressure on, so that TfL makes the correct decision.

Caledonian Road Tube Station

We the undersigned request that TfL repair one lift at time to keep the station open.

I think closing a central London tube station for 8 months is absolutely ludicrous! Cally Road Tube Station serves a large commuter community – so it would be extremely disruptive to many people’s lives if it’s closed down completely for such a long period. Surely it can be worked out that only one lift is repaired at once??

Other stations are so far away from this one, please don’t close it

I’m sure there’s a way to fix one of the lifts first and then the other and let the people use the stairs anyway not closing the whole station for this reason.

Doesn’t really effect me as i am fortunate enough not to be squashed daily tube user! But for people whose mode of transport is solely the tube this is ludicrous, especially seeing as we also have our local Tufnell park tube station out of action !!!

Or you could just repair the two lifts and let people use the stairs without closing the station

As well as causing unnecessary disruption this will also put pressure on local bus services affecting more people.

Has a project plan been released showing exactly why it will take 8 months?

Use the tube for commute, closure for 8 months will have a significant impact on daily life.

This is the only tube station in the neighborhood and the local busses are already at maximum capacity when they arrive in the mornings. Furthermore, as it has step free access, it is the only method of transport for people in wheelchairs. If Cally Road station is closed for eight months, we will be moving.
