Cally Road Tube

In December 2015, Transport for London (TfL) announced plans to replace the two lifts at Caledonian Road tube station, which would have resulted in the closure of the station for 8 months from March 14  until the end of 2016.

Islington Council opposed the closure and instead proposed that the lifts be replaced one at a time, allowing the station to remain open.

After the Council issued legal proceedings, TfL agreed to withdraw and reconsider its proposals.

But we need to keep the pressure on, so that TfL makes the correct decision.

Caledonian Road Tube Station

We the undersigned request that TfL repair one lift at time to keep the station open.

This is one of the few tube stations that offer step free access from street to platform. An above-average proportion of the users of this station therefore would be stranded if no step free access was possible.

The reason why I moved in this area is close tube station. Im young woman and considering my job I will be afraid coming back from work when nearest station is 20 min to my home…

This is crazy – why can’t we have one lift replaced at a time – the remaining lift can be used for entry only till 1pm and exit only from 1pm

TFL can you imagine the disruption you are causing by closing Caledonian station. It is serving a large community from Islington and Haringay.

Think again off what you want to do.

Replace one lift separately

I no longer live near the Cally, but in fact now use this station more often than when I did. Closing it for this long will create chaos.

Due to the recent changes to the one way system at the bottom of Caledonian Road peak time traffic frequently backs up to Copenhagen Street. Additional vehicles moving passengers from Caledonian tube to Kings Cross will further reduce local air quality which is already very poor

Ridiculous to consider closing the station for so long, and not to consider the needs of commuters, only the cost and convenience to TfL!
