Cally Road Tube

In December 2015, Transport for London (TfL) announced plans to replace the two lifts at Caledonian Road tube station, which would have resulted in the closure of the station for 8 months from March 14  until the end of 2016.

Islington Council opposed the closure and instead proposed that the lifts be replaced one at a time, allowing the station to remain open.

After the Council issued legal proceedings, TfL agreed to withdraw and reconsider its proposals.

But we need to keep the pressure on, so that TfL makes the correct decision.

We the undersigned request that TfL repair one lift at time to keep the station open.

Like many others, this is going to cause massive disruption to my journey to and from work. The station has been operating for weeks recently with just one lift working so not sure why it needs to close for eight months for these repairs.

8 months is madness.

This is a crucial station on the Piccadilly line which I use almost everyday. It is always full. It is inconceivable to take a bus to kings cross at rush hour. It will add 40 minutes to any journey. Why on earth can’t we repair one lift at a time?

If one lift can be replaced at a time there is no need to do both at the same time. If there is another shaft there is no reason why we should not use this shaft to have extra lifts as the student population around the tube station has increased considerably.

As a severely disabled person I rely on carers daily for support to live my life. I’m very worried my carers won’t be able to get to me due to this closure.

TFL should put passengers first, and not its own convenience. Closing this station will force people onto already crowded buses and make journeys intolerable.

The closure will seriously impact on thousands of commuters and school children. This could be managed by keeping one lift open and encouraging use of the stairs.

We certainly do not need any more traffic at the Kings X end of Caledonian Road. Also, closing the station is disrespectful to London residents who don’t live by one of the main transport hubs.

Difficult to believe that this cannot be done more quickly!

In this day and age that is ridiculous – I am sure the Chinese would figure out how to replace or repair two lifts in 2 weeks! Simply not good enough – this is the First World, not the Third World – get with the programme and deliver efficiency.
