The Conservative Mayor has said this morning (Wednesday 10 August) on the Radio 4 Today programme and LBC news that it would be a “good thing” if Ministers had another look at the issue of police cuts.

In response, Cllr Catherine West, Leader of Islington Council said: “the sheer hypocrisy of Boris Johnson is breathtaking.  The truth is that he is the man cutting frontline police in London, even in his own ward of St Peter’s.  His own budget document, produced before Cameron was even elected, showed that over the three years to 2012-13 he would be taking over 450 police officers off our streets.

Islington Labour has been telling him for months that Londoners oppose his reckless police cuts and want strong local police teams keeping our streets safe.

It’s a joke for the Conservative Mayor to pretend this is nothing to do with him.  He sets the budget for the Metropolitan Police Authority and he is taking the police off our streets”
