Islington Labour’s councillors for Junction ward are opposing moves by Transport for London (TfL) to move more buses to be based from the Holloway Bus Garage on Pemberton Gardens.

The local community champions have written with Jeremy Corbyn MP and Islington Council’s Executive Member for Environment & Transport, Cllr Claudia Webbe, to TfL calling on them to rethink their plans.

TfL is moving an extra 18 buses serving the number 46 route to the bus garage. This will lead to 13,000 more bus arrivals and departures over a single year.

Cllr Janet Burgess MBE, Islington Labour councillor for Junction ward, said: “Holloway Bus Garage is already incredibly busy, and the idea of an extra 13,000 arrivals and departures will fill local people with dread. We’ve written to TfL asking them to urgently reconsider this decision and to meet with us to discuss a way forward.”

“People living next door to the bus garage have had to endure noise and disruption for a long time, and we have worked with them and the bus garage operators to try and reduce the inconvenience where we can. It’s a bit of a kick in the teeth to be told that we are now faced with even more buses using the garage.”
