Islington Labour united today to tell David Cameron how much damage his government’s cuts are inflicting on our community.

Council Leader Cllr Catherine West, Jeremy Corbyn MP and Emily Thornberry MP presented a petition to 10 Downing Street on behalf of over 4,000 residents who have joined the campaign against these unfair cuts.

Cllr Catherine West said “This Tory Lib Dem government is cutting too fast, too deep and targeting those who can least afford it.  Islington Labour is on the side of our community and we stand united against this vicious attack on the thousands of low paid families in our borough”.

Emily Thornberry, MP for Islington South and Finsbury, said: “Last week, David Cameron claimed that Labour-led Islington Council were cutting children’s services rather than the Chief Executive’s pay – when in fact, the Chief Executive’s salary has been cut by £50,000 and children’s services will be protected. David Cameron should apologise to Islington and admit that his government is responsible for these reckless cuts to our community”

Jeremy Corbyn, MP for Islington North said: “Islington is a borough in great need of housing, jobs, and opportunities for young people. A twelve per cent cut to our funding means bad news for those in need in our community.”
