Local people are being encouraged to have their say on the latest proposals for a new ‘Cycleway’ in Islington that will link Finsbury Park with Highbury Fields.

Working with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, Islington Labour’s commitment to making cycling safer and more accessible for local people has received its latest boost, thanks to proposals that have been developed with Islington Council.

The proposals will create a safer and more pleasant environment for both pedestrians and cyclists along the route. The Cycleway will include protected cycle tracks, new pedestrian crossings, wider footways, safer junctions and more seating and planting.

Importantly, the Cycleway will help Islington work towards its commitment to ‘Vision Zero’, which aims to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries from London’s roads by 2041.

Cllr Claudia Webbe, Islington Labour’s Executive Member for Environment & Transport, said:

“Under our leadership, Islington Council is committed to making the borough a safer and more welcoming place for pedestrians and cyclists. This latest project is another step towards helping people of all abilities to choose more sustainable transport options.

“Too many of our roads have been designed for vehicles and not people, we want that to change. We have now launched the consultation on our plans and we invite you to explore through this route our cycling and walking transformation; we hope you will be inspired, and we welcome all views.”

The consultation ends on 15th July and responses can be submitted here – https://www.islington.gov.uk/consultations/highbury-cycleway-consultation.
