Islington Labour is on the side of private renters and against rogue landlords.

Everyone has the right to a decent home and poor housing can impact every aspect of people’s lives. It can harm their mental and physical health. The most recent Housing Stock Survey found that 29% of the privately rented dwellings in Islington didn’t meet a decent homes standard. So we are committed to improving housing for our residents.

Over 66,000 households in Islington live in privately rented properties. While there may be many good landlords and decent private rented properties in our borough, many are not.

We are already taking bold steps to protect private renters. But we want to go further.

In this year’s Budget, we are seeking to implement selective licensing to 70% of the borough’s private renters. This means we can take action against those rogue landlords who are renting out sub-standard properties to some of our residents who are most in need.

However, we need your support to make this happen. A scheme this wide needs government approval and with the newly-elected Tory government, nothing can be guaranteed. Please fill in the form below to add your name to the petition calling for private rented sector licensing in Islington.

We, the undersigned, support selective licensing of privately rented properties in Islington.

Oppose Islington's rogue landlords
