Ticket offices at two London Overground stations in Islington earmarked for closure have been saved, thanks to a campaign by Islington Labour.

In autumn 2018, Transport for London (TfL) announced proposals to close 51 ticket offices at London Overground stations, including the offices at Caledonian Road & Barnsbury Station and Canonbury Station in Islington.

Staffed ticket offices are incredibly important to passengers, especially for local people who have vulnerabilities. Islington Labour responded to the consultation urging TfL to think again.

But today, TfL has announced that both ticket offices in Islington will remain open.

The ticket offices will be open from 7.30am to 10am from Monday to Friday.

Cllr Claudia Webbe, Islington Council’s Executive Member for Environment & Transport, said:
“Islington Labour is committed to making our borough a fairer place for all, and this includes working hard to deliver a transport network that is sustainable, accessible and genuinely affordable for all local people. That is why I made Islington’s strong opposition clear when proposals were announced to completely close ticket offices at two Overground stations in Islington.
“I am pleased that the Mayor of London and Transport for London (TfL) have listened to the concerns I raised on behalf of local people about the proposals, that would have seen ticket offices at Caledonian Road & Barnsbury Station and at Canonbury Station close, and will now maintain staffed ticket offices at the busiest times of the morning during the week.
“We will maintain a close watch on how these changes work in practice, to ensure that passengers, especially disabled, elderly and more vulnerable people, are not adversely affected.”
