Cally Road Tube

In December 2015, Transport for London (TfL) announced plans to replace the two lifts at Caledonian Road tube station, which would have resulted in the closure of the station for 8 months from March 14  until the end of 2016.

Islington Council opposed the closure and instead proposed that the lifts be replaced one at a time, allowing the station to remain open.

After the Council issued legal proceedings, TfL agreed to withdraw and reconsider its proposals.

But we need to keep the pressure on, so that TfL makes the correct decision.

We the undersigned request that TfL repair one lift at time to keep the station open.

I’m so happy that we have a Local Council that are prepared to criticise bad decisions taken by TFL that could effect many of their residents and also threaten legal action. Well done Islington Council. Let’s keep a careful eye on TFL & see what they come up with next

I am asking for the Caledonian tube station to be kept open by repairing one lift at a time. Luisa Powell

This is the main mode of transport and access for those working in and visiting HMP Pentonville. It would be ludicrous to close the station when it is not only feasible but far more sensible for TfL to replace one lift at a time.

The closure of Caledonian Road Tube Station for 8 months will have an immediate detrimental effect on local businesses that depend on the passing trade. Most likely, these small business will go out of business before the station is proposed to re-open. As for the amount of commuters, in and out of the local community that it would affect on a daily basis, is extremely high.

Currently, using one working lift is no problem to most people and using the stairs might do most of us a bit of good and get people doing a bit more exercise!

This government and tfl’s arrogance defies belief and insults our intelligence at every turn. If they get to close Cally Rd station, it will never open again. Which is exactly the intention. It’s got nothing to do with replacing lifts. If that were really true, then they would replace them one at a time. Makes sense. You would not have to take them to court for that.
