Cally Road Tube

In December 2015, Transport for London (TfL) announced plans to replace the two lifts at Caledonian Road tube station, which would have resulted in the closure of the station for 8 months from March 14  until the end of 2016.

Islington Council opposed the closure and instead proposed that the lifts be replaced one at a time, allowing the station to remain open.

After the Council issued legal proceedings, TfL agreed to withdraw and reconsider its proposals.

But we need to keep the pressure on, so that TfL makes the correct decision.

You’ll see my postcode isn’t local (I’m a Labour member here), but our daughter lives in N7 and it’s going to be very difficult to visit her if they close the station. It will be very difficult, obviously, for her and her boyfriend to get to work – they deliberately chose the house he bought because of the good tube service from this station.

TFL have a record for taking a ridiculously long time to complete refrubishment work and inconviencing the traveling public. I have already sent complaint to TFL regarding Callidonian Rd Tube Station closing.

It is inconceivable that the replacement of two lifts should take so long.

There are four lift shafts. Install two new lifts first then replace the old ones.

My son has a wheelchair. We live nearest to Holloway Road but Caledonian Road is easier for us to walk to/ from as there aren’t stairs.

The lifts at Russell Square tube station were repaired at staggered timings too— I’m sure this can be done for Caledonian Road?

It’s so inconsiderate of TFL to do this straight after Xmas, at least wait until later in the year, eg Spring. If the closure goes ahead, are TFL going to offer rail replacement buses especially for commuters going to kings cross, how is the current bus service going to cope with the sudden influx of 30,000 extra passengers! Why not install new lifts in the current disused lift shaft and keep the station open, as going forward, the station needs more than 2 lifts with the housing and student accommodation boom in the area.

Or if it comes to the worst then close the lifts whilst they are getting fixed, but leave the station open and make it an entrance only station with platform access via the staircase.

Please, please, please repair one lift at a time. There is a Scope Disability centre around the corner from the tube station who rely on this facility. Whoever is party to the decision to close the station wholesale needs to be named and shamed, they probably drive themselves around and rely on public transport. We have survived working with one lift this week! please rethink your plans ….

I use this station regularly and i think the proposal is ridiculous. I would be interested to know the rationale of closing a station for 8 months to make the repairs, this does not make good business sense. There are stairs surely these can still be availble to able bodied individuals. However i appreciate this is not satisfactory for less mobile users.

AN 8 month closure shows a complete lack of ambition or ingenuity. And a complete contempt for tube users.

If TFL can’t half the time of this closure or close one lift at a time – the management should be fired and TFL should be heavily fined by London town hall.
