Cally Road Tube

In December 2015, Transport for London (TfL) announced plans to replace the two lifts at Caledonian Road tube station, which would have resulted in the closure of the station for 8 months from March 14  until the end of 2016.

Islington Council opposed the closure and instead proposed that the lifts be replaced one at a time, allowing the station to remain open.

After the Council issued legal proceedings, TfL agreed to withdraw and reconsider its proposals.

But we need to keep the pressure on, so that TfL makes the correct decision.

We the undersigned request that TfL repair one lift at time to keep the station open.

It should be possible to repair/replace one set of lifts at a time and keep the station open. If this was a private office building the option of closing would not be available, TFL needs to think more commercially!

Caledonian Road is already overburdened with traffic associated with the nearby industrial areas (Brewery Road), the prison, delivery vehicles for Cally Rd retail, the numerous bus routes that run along it. As a bicyclist who takes his son to school by riding along Cally Rd, it is already a very dangerous corridor. TfL’s approach will add an unsustainable level of additional traffic.

Uninterrupted use of this station is important on account of both street and platforms access being steps free.

A decision to close the station for 8 months instead of repairing one lift at a time undermines my trust in TFL. Makes me likely to use my car instead of relying on public transport. Very disappointing.

My son, who has autism, will not use escalators and the station is vital for his easy access to the London tube system. He finds kc overwhelming

TfL should fine its staff for even suggesting taking this station out of use for 8 months. On every indicator, this breaches its commitments to egalitarian service provision.

the lifts were previously renewed without closing the station and modern methods should make this easier to accomplish now

To close this at the same time as Tufnell park being closed is just outrageous and shows no thought to your passengers…at least wait till this opens again!
