We are making Islington
We are making Islington's green spaces more accessible

Islington Labour’s 2022 Local Election manifesto promised to increase the provision of public toilets and to deliver significant improvements to Highbury Fields.

So we are proud that the Labour-run Council has announced that there are plans for new, accessible public toilets on Highbury Fields, along with a new café, children’s education centre and increased biodiversity.

The back of the manifesto last year committed to bring improvements to Highbury Fields “with a new modern café and much-needed toilet facilities, increased green space and biodiversity”, and the Labour-run Council is delivering on this promise.

Residents have been concerned about the lack of public toilets on Highbury Fields, making it more difficult for parents, disabled and older people to enjoy the park.

Having listened to concerns from local people, the popular local park will get five new state of the art public toilets, which will be unisex and have baby changing facilities. The new facilities will make the park a more enjoyable place for local people and visitors, while making it more equal for those who need to use the new facilities.

Cllr Roulin Khondoker, Executive Member for Equalities, Culture and Inclusion, said: “I am pleased that we are delivering on our manifesto commitment to an access to toilets scheme and that we are making it easier for disabled people to use the toilet when they are out and about. This is all part of Islington Labour’s plan to make the borough a fairer place for all.”
