Keep our NHS in public hands
Keep our NHS in public hands

In Islington, we have a proud history of standing up for our public services.

Our Labour-run Council has pursued one of the biggest insourcing programmes in the country, bringing nearly £400m of public services back in-house, to ensure better value for money for local people, better democratic oversight and better pay and conditions for workers.

While we have brought more services into public hands, the Government continues to sell them off at an alarming rate and the recent news that an American company called Centene has gained control of 49 GP surgeries across London, including some in Islington, was further proof of this.

We are clear that public services are always better run for the public, not for profit.

The pandemic has further proven to us all that privatisation doesn’t work. This is shown by comparing the work of the £22bn outsourced Test and Trace service, in comparison to the NHS-managed vaccine roll-out.

And that’s why we must fight against this back door selling off of our NHS.

We are working with our neighbouring boroughs to oppose these plans and have written to the Health Secretary calling on him to block the takeover. Now we need your support.

Sign the petition below to tell the Tories to keep private hands off our public services.

Keep our public services in public hands

We, the undersigned, call on the Government to block the takeover of 49 London GP surgeries and keep the NHS public.
